FOR COURSE DATES, SEE CALENDAR
join us at overdale for a weekend or four day ridden course, with or without your own horse

This is an intensive learning experience, designed to be challenging, supportive and fun! Bring your own horse or ride one of ours. Each day you will receive a one hour flatwork lesson shared between two people, taught by Mary Wanless and possibly an assistant, or a 45 min private lesson with a seniour RWYM coach. On w/e courses your second (group) lesson is 'supervised flatwork', or if you prefer you can lear nthe groundwork of'Equine Learning Theory', the approach of Australian Andrew McLean. On four day courses you also have the choice of jumping or pole-work. Each afternoon there is a dismounted workshop, which includes time for questions and answers, and off-horse exercises that illustrate the biomechanics of correct riding. On four day courses we add video feedback. To complete the package add the group camaraderie, and excellent local pubs! The maximum group size is 12 people on 4 day courses, 14 on weekends. You can have an extra lesson if you wish on the afternoon when you arrive. The longer course gives you more time to become familiar with the changes in your riding, and to start ingraining them; to make more changes, and to increase your understanding of how those changes influence your horse.

Courses taught by Karin Major and Lynda Davey (not Mary Wanless) offer all 45m private lessons, and only groundwork or flatwork in the second (group) lession. They are limited to 8 participants.

our weekend simulator course gives you the chance to ride our state-of-the-art riding simulator!

Arrive Saturday morning for a 10am start. After brief introductions get an initial 'read out' of your riding biomechanics on the simulator. A re-alignment from the coaches, both on and off the horse, starts the learning process. Their hands-on input meshes with the visual feedback of the mirrors and the simulator's computer print-out, making a potent mix! Intersperse work on the simulator with exercises on various pieces of equipment designed to develop balance and core strength. These are enlightening, challenging and fun! Both days are spent cycling between various activities, and remarkably it is often the off-horse learnings have the most profound effect on the simulator print-outs. You will come away with answers to the questions that have always bugged you, and to others that you had not even thought of asking, and will leave looking and feeling very different! As well as a new 'take' on riding skills, you will also have before and after photographs, and a sheaf of computer print-outs to show your friends! The weekend is suitable both for novice and nervous riders and for skilled professional riders. It ends at 4pm on Sunday. There is a maximum of 8 participants, working throughout with 2 coaches. You can opt to stay over to Monday morning, and take a private mounted lesson on a school horse with Karin Major.

You can also have individual 1/2 hour lessons on the simulator during a ridden course

FOR THE 2020 SEASON OF COURSES WE HAVE A NEW RIDING SIMULATOR!!!

teacher training courses take place at overdale every year in late september/early october,

To attend you must previously have ridden on at least one four day course with Mary Wanless, so that your basic questions about RWYM have been answered, and you are sure that this is for you! The TT courses take place late Sept/early Oct, with Basic TT following on from a 4 day ridden course so that riders from abroad can do all 3 courses if they wish. Many of the participants are young professionals, but the basic course is open to riders who want to gain a better theoretical and practical understanding of biomechanics, to improve their diagnostic 'eye', and to learn the communication skills that help people 'get it'. These courses are intensive and demanding, with lots of hands-on learning opportunities that will develop your 'eye' and your riding and coaching skills. We will meet before you come, so your questions will get answered; but if you need more information contact the office on 01993 831193.

We also hold themed teacher training courses each April, focussing on topics like lateral work, jumping, and sport psychology for riders and coaches.

THE 'SUPERVISION SCHEME', WHICH IS OUR WORKING PUPIL PROGRAMME AT OVERDALE GIVES BOTH YOUNG PROFESSIONALS AND RIDERS OF ALL AGES THE OPPORTUNITY FOR A PROLONGUED EXPERIENCE OF LEARNING THROUGH THE 'RIDE WITH YOUR MIND' APPROACH. THE STABLE WORK IS MUCH LESS ARDUOUS THAN IT IS IN MANY YARDS. WE ARE SANE AND FUN TO BE AROUND, AND WE FULFILL OUR PROMISES TO OUR STUDENTS!
